A Montana man has been sentenced to 200 years in prison after he impregnated his 11-year-old granddaughter and molested the girl’s younger sister.
Mikeal Shane Pruett, 55, was arrested in June after the 11-year-old girl was told she was 32 weeks pregnant. The girl said she did not know she was pregnant because she “didn’t know what pregnant felt like.”
She originally told doctors that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy at a county fair but when doctors noticed the dates didn’t match up, she told the truth.
She admitted her grandfather had told her to make the story up.
In July 2014, the girl’s younger sister — who is 9 years old — told her biological mother she witnessed the grandfather sexually assault her sister.
She said in an interview that she would sometimes wake up and watch "through a peeking hole" in her bunk bed as Pruett molested her older sister.
The 9-year-old girl also told Missoulian that Pruett had sexually abused her by “kissing her privates,” and telling her to keep it a secret.
The 11-year-old girl gave birth in August. Pruett — who is the guardian of both girls — pleaded guilty in November. He was also charged with lewd conduct with a minor and forced sexual penetration in a different state two decades ago, according to Missoulian.
The sheriff’s office is investigating claims he sexually assaulted other girls, one of them being as young as 3 years old.
Ravalli County District Judge Jeffrey Langton said the grandfather seemed “to lack any semblance of a conscience,” at court on Jan 21. He sentenced the man to 100 years each on two counts of incest. When he asked Pruett if he had anything to say, the grandfather replied: "I'm so sorry." Langton asked him if that was all and Pruett sniffled and bowed his head.
