Ever had baby food? There’s a very good chance you’ve had Gerber.
Gerber was formed in 1927 after Daniel Frank Gerber’s pediatrician wife, Dorothy, gave him the idea to make hand-strained food for their baby girl.
It didn’t take long before Gerber became a major food company with distribution around the world!
And nearly everyone recognizes their logo: the iconic Gerber Baby!
But just who is the Gerber baby? Many thought the baby was Elizabeth Taylor or Jane Seymour.
But no, they were wrong… the iconic baby didn’t grow up to become a well known celebrity. So what’s the identity of this mystery baby?

The Gerber baby is a lovely lady named Ann Turner Cook! Here’s a photo of her from 1998, posing with the charcoal portrait that helped make her face become an icon!
The story was that Dorothy Hope Smith, a family friend, had done the original rough charcoal portrait sketch. A year later, in 1928, Gerber launched a contest to find the official face of their baby food brand. Smith submitted her sketch and promised Gerber that she would finish it if Ann’s portrait was chosen. But Gerber absolutely loved the rough sketch of the wide-eyed Ann and declared her the winner! By 1931, Ann’s face become the official trademark of the Gerber brand.
As you can see, she’s just as adorable as ever!
Ann is a Tampa native who’s lived a humble life. She is a retired English teacher and mystery novelist. Until recently, few people know of her claim to fame!
This year, Ann turned 90! Happy Birthday, Ann!
