Seems like people are so offended by so many things nowadays, that if they run out of targets, they end up creating a new one. Case in point is a restaurant which most everyone have heard about and many have frequented often – Cracker Barrel.
Since the offensive Confederate Flag trend seemed to have peaked, one guy decided he needed to find a new target for everyone to get offended over. So Ryan Koch went straight to Change.org and decided to voice his concerns against the horribly offensive restaurant, Cracker Barrel.
Yes, Ryan has had it with this establishments offensive name and logo!
Well, this all was actually one big joke. But Ryan didn’t intend for it to have the consequences it is having. Ryan jokingly proposed the name Cracker Barrel was offensive to white people and it should be changed to Caucasian Barrel.
Now over 16,000 people have signed for the Kansas City, Missouri man’s campaign against the offensive name to indeed be changed. Some naturally saw it for the joke that it was, but it turns out the majority actually took it seriously and agree with Ryan’s petition!
Here’s what the petition reads:
“I say all of us European Americans start protesting C****er Barrel. It uses an offensive slur and it is deeply offensive and mocks our long and proud heritage.
“The name is offensive, their logo stereotypes European Americans as people who sit on chairs and lean against what appears to be a bourbon barrel, claiming we are all a bunch of alcoholics. Sure, they’ll SAY it’s a “cracker” barrel but everyone knows crackers don’t come in barrels, they come in bags and boxes!
“Change the name C****er Barrel to Caucasian Barrel. After all, white people should have something to be offended by, too!”
Since so many people didn’t even get the joke, Ryan had to backtrack and explain it to all the people who somehow took it seriously.
“I started this satirical petition in lieu of constant media reports of various groups and organizations constantly wanting to change things throughout the country because they claim they are offended.
“The petition was meant to shed light on how ridiculous all of the political correctness currently going on in the country is, and how we should focus on real issues. [I made this] for satirical and comedic purposes to show how ridiculous political correctness is getting in America.”
Not only did people sign this with serious intent, they even gave recommendations for future targets to go after, as someone wrote:
“White Castle is next…”
“This eating establishment has a name that is racist against my skin color and ancestry. This injustice shall NOT stand,” Austin Howe of Dublin, Michigan wrote.
Should Cracker Barrel actually consider this move and change their name, now that so many people have taken this seriously? Share this story with friends and family to get their reaction to the hilarious outcome of this campaign which all started out as a complete joke!
